Some people love it, some people hate it, but regardless, it's a novel of life after a civilization-shattering event. I actually love this book.

another genre classic, but one that didn't age quite as well. The aftermath of a nuclear war; surprisingly optimistic for the Cold War era.

okay, this is part of a series, but I only read the first two books. Some event happens and nothing electronic works anymore and gunpowder is useless. The world is thrown back to the middle ages. How will people survive. Hokey, but enjoyable.

hmmm. This is not your typical post-apocalyptic novel, and not for the faint of heart. Angels who aren't so nice or great, Arks that aren't ships, and an unpredictable plot.

YA. After everyone she knows is killed by a virus, the main character believes she is alone in the world. until she finds out she's not. a bit of a thriller.

YA. after a virus kills most of the US population, democracy fails and a dictator takes over. a ragtag group of kids search for a secret city full of resisters.

this set of books is modern YA dystopian fiction. As is typical, the first two are better than the last two. Could also be classified as post-apocalyptic.

i haven't ever finished this book. I get halfway through and can't get past Stephen King's prose. But a lot of other people love King, so you might give it a try. Classic.

another doorstopper, loved by some hated by others. a nuclear attack leaves a navy ship at sea trying to find an uncontaminated port.
