Coppery Solar Path Lights
The copper-colored parts of the lamps are made out of metal, but the black plastic stakes they come with are a bit flimsy. One of the stakes broke when I was pushing it into the ground (it hit a rock). Of course, you don't have to use the stakes it comes with. The lamps work great, as long as they get enough sunlight. When it's cloudy all day, they are really dim. When it's sunny, they do a pretty good job of lighting the path. (Keep in mind we're only talking about 6 LEDs here.) When I first took them out of the box, four were fully charged and two didn't light up at all. They weren't broken; the last two just needed several days of sunlight to charge up (I guess the batteries were completely depleted). The coppery-colored finish on the lamp looks nice, much prettier than I expected.
So far so good
So far, these lights are holding up, we'll see how well the solar cells work to charge them once the batteries start getting drained. They look decent, install easily, and so far, all work fine. As has been mentioned before, the light from the single LED is pretty dim, so don't expect to use these lights to illuminate your night time basketball game! Basically it's for looks, not much else, as the light from them is pretty sad, but they look nice, so that counts for something.
EDIT: It's May of 2010 now, and the lights are all still going strong. Now that the sun is out more, all the lights stay on all night (or at least until I go to sleep), so we know the batteries and solar panel still work good. Again, not much light, and really only for decoration (it looks like fireflys in the yard), but looks do count for something...just don't expect it to light up your walkway or anything.
Good for accent, not really for full LIGHTING
I definitely was expecting them to put out more light than they do, but i am still very happy with these. They really work well to accent the garden, and easy install compared to my wired set.... You'll be happy
