Customer Reviews
Great power source for iPod, phone, etc.
I happened to stumble upon this device and it was a great purchase. You can use it as a charger to replace your phone and ipod chargers while on the road. I used it to charge my iPod as well as my Blackjack and Razor phones. The attachments allow easy swapping. The unit also will automatically switch from 110V to 220V so you can use it overseas. It comes with all the adapters for this.
One can charge it alone or allow it to pass through the charge to the device. Well worth the purchase. Nice size. I wish I would have purchased two when CompUSA closed!
UPDATE January, 2010:
I used the Powermonkey on my iTouch and iPhone and found that it will not work thanks to Apple's decision to remove the firewire support for their new cables thus the old tip will not charge newer iPods and iPhones. One solution I found was the Scosche Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod touch 2G, 3G; iPod nano 4G; iPhone 3G (Black) which is a tad bulky but does the trick very nicely.
You can order directly from Powertraveller to get the other tips. The pricing is a little steep but using paypal you can get it sent to your home. The new tips (called MonkeyNuts) worked with my iTouch and iPhone (new 3GS). Make sure to securely place them into the device. Good luck!
UPDATE July 2010:
I read some of the other reviews and cannot understand the issues. I have had mine for over 3 years with no issues with tips breaking. As for directions, how hard is it to (a) plug the adapter in the wall socket and connect the cord to the Power Monkey; (b) insert the proper tip on the Power Monkey, insert it into the device, and turn on the Power Monkey; (c) be smart when charging since any tip for charging is not completely sturdy- in other words, when I travel (which is when I use it most), I place the unit I am charging (typically my iPhone or iTouch) on my lap if I am listening to music while it charges or on the tray while charging and watching a movie on the iTouch or iPhone.
I guess I am more savvy than those other reviewers but I cannot see how this ever gets a rating of below 4 stars. It is by far and away the best portable charger I have seen for its versatility. I used it in Europe and Asia with no issues. Thanks for readin!
Good device for travelers with iPods and Motorola phones
Nana's got both of those devices and on the flight from London both those batteries gave out. She arrived here and had me order the Power Monkey (what a stupid name for a product, though, looks more like a squid) and she is happy with it. It does what it's supposed to do.
Great product - just as promised
My Power Monkey arrived today & it's great - exactly as expected! It's small, light & arrived 60% charged. Perfect for the frequent traveler.
